Neuro Assessment & Treatment

Avon ward in our Hospital forms the gateway to our rehabilitation services and our Neuro Rehabilitation pathway.  Most patients are initially admitted to this ward for assessment and diagnosis, by our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), of long-term neurological conditions, acquired/traumatic brain injury and post traumatic amnesia.

The length of stay on Avon is approximately ten weeks, during which time initial assessments and diagnosis are undertaken and form the basis for the patient’s tailored programme along our complete rehabilitation pathway.

The full multi-disciplinary assessment of a patient’s needs includes: physiotherapy (dedicated physiotherapy suite with hydrotherapy pool), occupational therapy, speech & language therapy, clinical neuropsychology, cognitive skills, medication and nursing needs.  Where required, social work support is provided and other services such as podiatry and dietetics complement the service offering.

With 24 hour medical cover, all treatment plans are designed under the direction of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine who supports the multi-disciplinary team of medical, nursing, therapists and rehabilitation assistants.

Patients will either progress to another ward in our specialist Hospital or transfer to one of our other non-hospital facilities on the Glenside Campus to continue intensive rehabilitation and treatment.
