Avon Ward
Neuro Rehabilitation: Assessment & Treatment (9 Beds)
The gateway to our rehabilitation services. Most patients are initially admitted to this ward for assessment and diagnosis, by our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), of long-term neurological conditions, acquired/traumatic brain injury and post traumatic amnesia.
Initial assessment and diagnosis form the basis for the patient’s tailored programme along our complete rehabilitation pathway. Treatment plans are designed under the direction of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine. After 8 - 12 weeks, patients will be transferred to one of the other Wards in our specialist Hospital or transfer to our non-hospital pathway for ongoing rehabilitation and treatment.
Bourne Ward
Neuro Rehabilitation: Intensive Rehabilitation (10 Beds)
Following the completion of the initial assessment period on Avon, this ward continues the intensive MDT rehabilitation programme. Focusing on patient-centred goals, including our Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT) programme, rehabilitation works to strengthen and establish structured patterns of behaviour to compensate for impaired neurological systems. The ward is also able to provide specialist neuro palliative care for patients reaching the end of life.
Ebble Ward
Neuro Behavioural: Assessment & Treatment (4 Beds)
Patients with challenging behaviour are admitted to this ward for assessment and treatment. Working with Clinical Neuropsychologists, our Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine develop tailored neuro behavioural treatment programmes. The aim is to move patients to our ‘step-down’ ward (Nadder) to continue with their neuro behavioural and rehabilitation programmes.
Patients benefit from a 1:1 staff-to-patient ratio in a purpose-built ward with fixtures and fittings that are designed to minimise the risk of harm, which include specially weighted furniture and an individually controlled power supply to each bedroom. This ward is unable to admit patients detained under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act.
Nadder Ward
Neuro Behavioural: Treatment & Rehabilitation (8 Beds)
Following the completion of initial assessment and treatment on Ebble, this ward provides continuation of neuro behavioural programmes for those with mild to moderate challenging behaviour. Treatment focuses on behavioural and social development and uses neuro behavioural interventions that aim to reduce, control or eliminate challenging behaviour. With a staff-to-patient ratio of at least 1:2, patients can be admitted directly to this ward or are transferred from Ebble as their behaviour improves. This ward is unable to admit patients detained under Section 3 of the Mental Health Act.
Wylye Ward
Complex Care: Intensive Care (8 Beds)
With a staff-to-patient ratio of at least 1:1, this ward provides round-the-clock intensive level three care for patients with high-dependency and complex medical and nursing needs. These may include those requiring ventilatory support, those in a coma, Persistent Vegetative State, Minimally Conscious or with ‘locked-in’ syndrome. Full respiratory support and management is provided under the direction of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine with support from an Intensive Care Specialist. Subject to assessment, ventilator and tracheostomy weaning can be facilitated.
