Our Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) has significant experience in the management of challenging rehabilitation needs as a result of various neurological conditions. Working across our pathways, they provide an integrated approach across a full range of rehabilitation therapies 24 hours a day.
The single-site campus is a major benefit to patients and enables us to offer a complete rehabilitation pathway.
As patients move along or between pathways, the constant surroundings and familiar faces of our multi-disciplinary medical, nursing and therapy teams play a key part in helping patients and service users to develop further.
Consultants
Our Medical Consultants oversee all rehabilitation programmes and are supported by Medical Officers who provide medical cover 24 hours a day.
• Trained and experienced Consultants from a range of specialised fields including Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry and Clinical Neuropsychology.
• Provide support and advice to all members of the MDT to deliver the very best clinical services to our patients.
• Point of contact for the patient’s family and liaison with their GP.
Clinical Neuropsychology
Our Clinical Neuropsychologists assess emotional, cognitive and behavioural difficulties and make recommendations for cognitive strategies and behaviour management programmes.
• Assessment of patient emotional, cognitive and behavioural difficulties.
• Input into behavioural management programmes.
• Directly support all members of the MDT to guide and advise on patient interventions including: anger/behavioural management, cognitive rehabilitation, anxiety management and motivation.
Speech & Language Therapy
Our Speech and Language Therapists are specialists in the management of addressing communication problems and eating and drinking difficulties as a result of neurological damage.
• Specialised management of communication/speech problems and difficulties in eating and drinking, especially swallowing.
• Diagnosis of disorders via assessment, group and one-to-one work.
• Tailored therapy programmes focus on individual needs and developing skills required for daily life and social interaction.
• Provision of electronic and other aids where required to assist communication.
Social Work
Our Social Workers play an important role in liaising with a number of different parties who become involved in a patient’s/service user’s care.
• Support the patient’s family to help guide them through difficulties associated with the patient’s brain injury or other neurological conditions.
• Includes liaison with community social services, social care agencies, benefits agencies and working alongside case managers, solicitors or negotiating funding with relevant authorities/trusts.
• Preparation for patient discharge: liaison with community social services to plan and implement care and support plan.
Nursing
Our Team of Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants are experienced in working with individuals who have complex needs as a result of long-term neurological conditions, including physical (e.g. nutrition, continence, tissue viability) and cognitive needs (e.g. memory). They integrate therapy into their every day routines with patients and support and engage patients and their families in the rehabilitation process.
• Specialist team of nursing staff and rehabilitation assistants.
• Undertake a range of interventions with patients that have complex rehabilitation or physical needs such as nutrition, continence, tissue viability and cognitive difficulties, including confusion and memory impairments.
• Ensuring continuity of CRT programmes: helping patients to plan their time, prompting to remember the correct order of established routines and other aspects of daily living.
Occupational Therapy
Our Occupational Therapy Team works to understand the how a long-term neurological condition has affected a patient’s/service user’s ability to perform day-to-day tasks independently. Through structured rehabilitation programmes and goal-setting, they work on a one-to-one basis with individuals to help them re-learn basic skills and regain their independence.
• Structured assessment, graded rehabilitation programmes and goal-setting to help patients re-learn basic skills for independent daily living: establishing a morning routine through to deciding what to eat, writing a shopping list or managing finances.
• Provision of therapy on a one-to-one basis and treatment plans promote independence in tasks.
• Occupational Therapy Assistants, Activity Organisers and Recreational Assistants work with patients to develop leisure and recreational activity programmes in our Horizon Centre.
• Preparation for patient discharge: work with family members and other agencies to establish routines, assess them in the home environment and provide equipment and training to promote safety.
Physiotherapy
Our Team of Chartered Neurological Physiotherapists work on a one-to-one basis with patients/services users to address fitness, posture, movement and function in order to aid their increased independence and quality of living. A purpose built Physiotherapy suite, with exercise rooms/gym and hydrotherapy pool are excellent assets.
• Support for movement disorders provided by Chartered Neurological Physiotherapists. Design and implementation of personal and group exercise programmes to address physical impairments, balance, fitness and walking re-education.
• Purpose-built physiotherapy suite, exercise rooms and hydrotherapy pool.
• Provision of specialist seating and postural management.
• Qualified to inject botulinum toxin to aid muscular spasticity and tone management, if required.
• Respiratory support for complex care patients.
Administration and Facilities Team
A number of other teams work behind the scenes to ensure the smooth operation of Glenside. This includes members of the Management and Administration Team (Operations, Finance, HR, Marketing and Training) and catering, maintenance, laundry and domestic staff.
