New and improved Grovely House takes shape

The dramatic transformation of Grovely House at Glenside Hospital is in full swing and moving ahead at a pace.

Substantial investment is being made by replacing the old care home, which has been demolished, and two additional hospital wards are being constructed in order to accommodate more beds, make better use of space and ultimately provide much better facilities for patients.

The seven-bed converted house is being transformed into a state of the art, 16-bed unit consisting of two separate wards on two floors. The unit will also be more accessible for wheelchair users once it is complete, with wider corridors, lifts and ramp access.

The timber frame for the new and improved Grovely House is already complete and windows and doors commenced. Inside, mechanical and electrical first fix works are underway and roof finishes are materially complete.

Facing bricks have been delivered and it is expected that masonry cladding to the timber frame will commence in the next few weeks or so.

Andy Knowles, Glenside Hospital’s Development and Estates Director, said: “It is incredibly exciting to see the building taking shape. Everyone is working together as a team and we are on course to complete the building on budget and by the target date, ready for the opening in August 2012.”

Andrew Norman, CEO of Glenside, added: “We have known for some time that Grovely House has needed redevelopment to bring it in line with the excellence of the rest of the wards and facilities at Glenside. Thanks to substantial investment from Bowmark we are moving ahead with these plans, which, once complete, will leave us with a brand new, modern facility to be proud of.”
